One form of question that I’ve experimented with are 'would you rather' questions.
My kids have been asking me a bunch of these recently, for example they might ask: "would you rather be able to slide down rainbows or jump on clouds?"
(This is the clean and fun version of these questions, sometimes they get a bit rude or philosophical. 😂)
I was having a browse of Gatheround recently and I saw an example of a 'would you rather' question and my eyes lit up!
Gatheround has a few 'would you rather' examples such as:
Would you rather receive a shout from the CEO at a company all-hands meeting or a private word of thanks from them?
Generally speaking, would you rather receive praise verbally or in writing?
Would you rather receive an extra day off or a surprise bonus for a comparable amount?
Would you rather receive a lot of vague praise or a little bit of highly detailed praise?
If you had to choose between two evils — receiving no appreciation at all at work or receiving appreciation that isn’t genuine — which would you pick?
In theory, these could be asked anywhere:
on social
within your community
within other people's communities
via email (vote by clicking on a link or emoji)
as part of an event
The options are endless.
Below are a few I did on Slack and Twitter
You can also take it further with ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas for new questions to ask.
What makes a good 'would you rather' question?
does it resonate?
is it for fun, or for deep discussion?
how do you want people to respond?
how do you plan to re-use the responses and ideas?
how will it inform and support you in other community activities?
could you use it as a poll or a micro-survey rather than for discussions?

I like this idea for quick engagement. I've an article scheduled for next week in which I've included a poll (2 choices) for the first time. Interested to see if people respond to it.
This game in our house always goes to 'would you rather fight...' e.g. 10 chicken-sized T-Rex's or one T-Rex-sized chicken? It's not clear cut 😂
