Sometimes we ask the wrong questions. Christina Garnett said it well. Instead of focusing on what needs to be automated, we should ask what needs to stay human.
In search of efficiencies, we forget that part of what makes community special is the human process behind it all. When you take that away it becomes meaningless.
It can be very easy to fall into these traps, especially when some things in communities do benefit from automation. The moment you start to automate what should be human is the moment you start to lose the community.
What is it that will make yours standout and become remarkable? Is it your wit? Your compassion? Your ability to make something out of nothing? Your knowledge? Your ability to problem solve? Or help others help themselves in ways no one else can?
Whatever it is, humanity matters and as community builders we can create rules around what needs to stay human. We must protect our human boundaries against automation.
