I’m back into big conference organizing mode with Ministry of Testing and one of the things we’re doing is doubling down on the fact that a conference is a team game. To create a great event it is not just about focusing in on the speakers, it’s about the whole community effort.
We’ll share our thinking in more detail in the future, but I was rather pleased with this mini-framework we came up with and that people can apply for. (Full credit to Simon Tomes and Diana Dromey for being a core part to this process).
With this in mind, we’ve created different “contributing” roles that people can apply for and receive the same benefits as speakers. They are different roles, with different prep required, all equally important to the event experience.
F.A.S.T Conference Contributing roles:
Facilitator: Create and facilitate a group activity
Ambassador: Create connections before, during and after the event
Speaker: Present a 20-30 minute talk
Teacher: Host a workshop
Obviously all conferences will have differing needs, this is what aligns with us and what we are doing right now. The important part, for us, is to give value to all the contributing roles.
