One of the things I’ve been reflecting on recently is the focus on creating processes that create addiction rather than a focus on change, or addressing real needs.
I’ve never been one to push for meaningless engagement and I do very much believe in having funnels and community flywheels as a way to facilitate great communication, but when it comes to community it’s a slippery slope to design for what actually leads to addiction.
As community builders we can feel inadequate when our communities are quiet, it makes us feel like we’re not doing the work, but these days it’s what I prefer.
I don’t want people to feel like they have to show up. I want them to know they are always welcome and that when they show up they will get value through receiving or giving.
I aspire to create communities of change, not of distraction (via
