I stumbled across Mapping the Rise of Bristol’s Avant Folk Scene where Bristol-born artist Laura Phillips is discussing the specific nuances behind the embrace of “folk culture” by her hometown’s underground art scene.
And all I could think about was: isn’t this such a great way to tell a story around how communities & ecosystems have arisen?
How can we use this perspective to tell stories or do community discovery around your scene?
How could you look for the:
people
stories
moments
memories
artefacts
events
progress
successes
failures
…and so much more
…as a part of how to understand how to build community.
Sure, it’s much easier to look back in hindsight at how ‘scenes’ have developed, but we can learn from them to help us understand better what to look out for when we build our communities.
The Bristol folk scene map was awesome Rosie. Thanks for triggering thoughts!
